After finishing the Miss America Deconstructed paintings, I was pretty much burnt out. I knew where I wanted to go next, but was not sure how to get there. I decided to go back to drawing/illustrating with a focus on people in natural states of sleeping and lounging. Of course I stayed true to my self-portrait nature. I participated in the 5.4 Million and Counting project put together by Chi Nguyen, which is an amazing effort constructing a tallied quilt by women all around the nation to show support for women’s reproductive rights. To see the whole quilt and learn more about it, visit the website, http://5point4million.tumblr.com I also have been returning back to Timmy the Cyclops. Back in June, I included Weezer into the world and had them passed off to the guys by their tour manager at the show I attended. Hopefully those little guys brought some laughs because that’s what the cyclops world traditionally does!

Recently, drawing has been on pause for a special project I have been working on. I am so excited to share it with everyone, but I cannot reveal anything until its finished! But, I can hint that the creation is beyond adorable and hilarious!

This past weekend I hung out in Downtown St.Pete and pretty much ate my way through and photographed. I was looking for new inspiration for the next half of the drawing series I have been working on. I want to incorporate vintage chairs with unique design and textiles to illustrate. Pretty much every antique shop on Central Avenue was visited to find unique chairs for me to photograph, luckily, I got some great shots to work with.

Some who are friends with me or have recently visited my website, may have spotted something new on the Bio page, Los Angeles. Yes, I will be moving out to the Los Angeles area. It’s been a tough process, I’ve been looking at apartments and applying for about five months now. It’s not easy when you are coming from out of state. Hopefully something will come through this month or next, the move has to be made ASAP. So, please keep your fingers crossed for me! This is the perfect time to make this change!

Also, some of you know I am a HUGE Bernie Sanders supporter, still am and I support his decision to back Hillary Clinton. I will be voting for Hillary. We don’t have room for bigotry, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia etc. in this country. I am extremely disgusted by what has come out of the wood work this election year. Now, I knew these people existed, I’m from the South, I’ve lived my life around people who are grossly racist, homophobic, xenophobic, sexist, and just plain ignorant. These people found their puppet and it’s scary. Some of you are probably disgruntled because Sanders did not make it, I’m upset too, but as Bernie said, “No one is more upset than me.” The thing is, do not give up on the political revolution, giving up is being a traitor to what Sanders started. People need to get involved with Government if they want to change it. Voting Third Party in this election is going to increase chances of us having a Hitleresque Dictator for President, so I caution everyone, be careful, keep in mind the severity of this election. While I support Third Party normally, I cannot condone it in this current election. The good thing is, Third Party is going to now be seen as a normal option and the next elections to come, I can guarantee we will see an increased amount of Third Party elected politicians.

Enjoy some images of my recent work below, I’ll post again when the project I am working on is finished! To see all of the work and my process, please follow me on Instagram at doll_legs on Facebook, or my website, www.johannafalzone.com

I have not been idle in creating art, just very busy with finishing out a year of teaching, celebrating my Mom's long awaited retirement (43 years in the workforce), delivering my brother his new car, and of course enjoying a night of Weezer among many other events. In that time I had been creating these very special cyclops' of Weezer aka Weezer Clops. They turned out way better than I had imagined and are a great addition to the Timmy the Cyclops world. I gave these to the band the day of the show in Tampa, I hope they liked them. This one is of Rivers Cuomo (Rivers Cuomo Clops), approx size is 3"x4" on drawing paper with pen and ink, 2016. @rivers_cuomo #riverscuomo #weezer @weezer #cyclops #music #guitar #fineart #illustration #drawing #johannafalzone #artistoninstagram

My Stitch In square. 12 rows represent the 12 decades of the 20th and 21st century and what we have accomplished for women's reproductive rights during that time and currently. The light pink to dark red color gradation represents women young to old and how every generation is affected and needs to keep working together to ensure we continue to have our rights. Thanks @palmetto_darlin for inviting me to the Stitch In, I could not be there, but it brought to my attention this awesome project and it's great to be a part of it! 😊 It is now on its way to Brooklyn. #stitchin #reproductiverights #feminism #womensrights #pink #red #12decades #johannafalzone @reprorights @textileartscenter @whatchidid

Sam and Papa Nieme Sleeping, Pen and Ink on Drawing Paper, (drawn on 9"x12", exact size tbd), 2016. By: Johanna Falzone – For those of you that don't know, this is my 91 year old grandpa who passed away early this past summer. My Dad took this picture of my brother and him as they fell asleep watching football at my cousin Felicia's old house on Thanksgiving last year as in 2014. I really liked this photo, it was perfect with where I am going with these drawings and I think Papa Nieme would be very happy to know he is part of my art now, he was always very encouraging of my talent! #johannafalzone #drawing #illustration #lounging #robe #pink #color #highchroma #penandink #figuredrawing #artistsoninstagram #sam #papanieme #sleeping #couch #green #bigbrother #grandpa #family

So I have finished creating all 100 cyclops’ and the process of scanning them into the computer will now start. I will be turning this into what I call a mini-book because its going to be pocket-sized. My projected goal is to have a first edition of 100 books and a second edition of 200 books, which ever works better because I want to submit these to be sold in a really awesome book store I found in New York, its badass and their logo is pink.

Anyway I finished putting together my new and first real easel with my Dad this week and my projector also came, so it will be put to the test tonight with the first painting of this new collection I am working on. I don’t want to say anything about the work just yet, but I can tell you the theme of which is Female Protagonists in Film that I relate to. It’s really awesome and I have 10 paintings, two of which are the same person, but one is going to a be a smaller study, and these canvases are all square so far, I’m feeling the square lately after doing the Hear, Speak, and See No Evil paintings.

Anyway, we will see how far I get this summer in progression its a weird time, I’m supposed to be driving (ugh) up to Chicago in July????? and then recently my Dad brought home two travel books on Southern California (I’ve begged to go since I could speak, but he never wanted to, I’m very confused, but thats cool), but also there is this possibility of getting a full-time/part-time job and moving, so really traveling only happens if I am completely content somewhere and have the time. So as far as I know, I’m painting and possibly doing interviews and a lot of driving.

So I have been non-stop painting/bookmaking etc. Screenplays yup, a lot.

Anyway so this first Friday is the Downtown Peepholes, mine will be at Bon Ami Confections, so you better be there to peek inside.

So far I am currently working on two paintings and getting ready to shoot four more photos for the last four paintings that go with my latest collection for BFA. I am also working on books for installation other than the peephole which is finished, just needs to be installed. The two books I am currently constructing are for a group installation and a solo one. The group one is a leather bound book that will feature photos I purchased from an antique shop to recreate the main woman’s story, it goes along with the theme of the Muse of which this woman is. The second book is a literature based installation where I have constructed an altered book out of the Bell Jar and viewers will be able to interact with the book by pulling out poems by Plath and myself. This is the second interactive book I have made, its nice to be able to invite the viewer although I still fear sticky dirty hands touching my art.

Other projects I have been working on are figure painting and screenwriting. This is the first time I have ever written screenplays and its so much fun, I knew when I wasn’t really making the A mark in Video Art that I was a “filmmaker” rather than a “video artist” although I consider the two the same thing, but some people do not… Anyway I had a feeling taking screenwriting would open the right doors for what I wanted to do with film, so I’m glad its working out! I’ve been writing about my cyclops’ so its great to give them a greater purpose than just being still images on a page, there is now a story and dialogue for them which expands their meaning farther creating an even more meaningful narrative for them.

That title has no meaning whatsoever to what I am typing about.

Anyway I think I have broken some kind of record, I have been sick since December 6th it is now December 29th and my throat, ears, and cloggy voice have refused to leave thy body. I would be worried, but I’m more annoyed than anything and quite amused by the length of this sickliness. The camp was slightly disturbed by the recent discovery that my thyroid was low, yes that stupid little gland decided to use me being sick as a way to slowly creep up and make me feel 10 times worse and blame my cold or whatever it is I have on the depressing gloom that covered myself. Getting the medication changed was hell, I upset the endocrinologist because my primary fixed the problem first, caused more issues and I basically got my way in the end. In other news, I’m back on track, its okay, don’t worry this is not a gravy train anymore, we have some synthetic hormones being produced.

Other than that little pee-spot on the carpet, my Mom, Kate and myself jaunted off into the wonderful halls of The Ringling Museum of which my day was made by seeing the gigantic paintings of Marie Antoinette’s parents (King and Queen of Austria) and the pastel reference drawing of Marie Antoinette by the lovely famous loyal painter Élisabeth-Louise Vigée Le Brun. Also, we saw the temporary exhibit of Paolo Veronese’s work which was amazing and laughable at the same time, sorry men in tights with glazed one shade of black oil paint, but I can always find humor in glazed paintings (it’s a really painterly nerd thing). Also laughing at the painted over collie in an early painting by Duchamp was great! We failed one thing in our mission and that was to find a particular painting of which was not on display, we figure the Ringling people are hiding it in a secret vault in the upstairs storage and restoration rooms. Such hoarders.

Anyway, other news I think I’ve become slightly domesticated, which I’m not sure if that’s a good thing in a domestic partnership/marriage both whatever, but it’s good for a single chick like me because it means I am literate at making myself healthy yummy food (and unhealthy, like shortbread cookies).

Those free paintings I had were given as Christmas presents to my cousins, they in return gave me 50lbs of art history books!

Also I am working on a project called 100 Cyclops’, they are drawn on 3″x3.5″ bristol paper. Cute little tiny creatures, and yes they will be for sale once all 100 are finished scanned/photographed. So far there are 32 complete, I’ve been slacking this week due to Christmas, sleeping, eating, shopping, and museuming. I will be drawing more today, time to kick my butt into action, also I have been slacking on reading Mansfield Park, but eh, that happens.

I must type about this, I have slowly been going back to the gym, it’s been awful being sick and trying to go back because apparently physical exhaustion and illnesses do not go together and I am always trying to make them go together its like two mismatched puzzle pieces, one is a small hole and the other is a big circle and they just do not fit no matter how much you force them. But in conjunction with all of this I seriously think the old people I take classes with are slacking. Cardio Dance Thursday night had one old person, myself and my Mother, it must be Christmas that has forced the old people into thinking “I just need to eat bad food and watch my grandchildren play with their toys”, no I’m only kidding, but there is some partial truth in that. Anyway these oldies need to get back here, Cardio Dance is boring without them, I enjoy watching them do their cute old people moves and talk/complain about having to work hard, and listen to their jokes. Seriously they make working out worthwhile.

Also I think I have been reading waaaaayyyy too much xojane, because I’m starting to blog like them when I should just be talking about my art on here. It’s just one big “this is my life right now and I want you to read about it”.

Other than all of the above mentioned events of my break there have been many other things, but there’s no room to discuss everything that goes on in my life, heck even Morrissey bought, sold and re-bought his own Los Angeles home so he could change his name on the deed that states who owns the house, basically he re-bought it with an alias so the paparazzi would stop stalking him or something, that’s at least the rumor. So moral to this Morrissey story, there are some things people just should not know and are meant to be private.

I leave you with this video…
