I have four new paintings up on my website, they are comparison paintings of myself with Andy Warhol, Marilyn Monroe, Kurt Cobain, and Courtney Love. These paintings go alongside the ones with Debbie Harry and Gwen Stefani. There will be 5 more added next week that I am currently working on.

Also, I have completed a 3.5 year long video art piece that recalls my memory of Kurt Cobain’s death. It’s a long story, but here is the video. If you go onto my vimeo page there is an explanation of the video, which I high recommend reading because it really gives you some insight into what this means to me and what all of the imagery represents.

Finally, I have been updating Underexposed, my blog for emerging artists every couple of weeks. Yesterday I posted about Kurt Cobain as a Visual Artist. It’s great, I’m really proud of it, so check it out!!!

Also I am now registered on Nurture Art’s Registry for Artists and Curators which is an artist space and collective based out of Brooklyn, NY. I recommend this to any artist out there, its like submitting to a gallery only a registry of artists. Nurture Art uses this registry to pick artists for exhibitions in their gallery space.

So I have been non-stop painting/bookmaking etc. Screenplays yup, a lot.

Anyway so this first Friday is the Downtown Peepholes, mine will be at Bon Ami Confections, so you better be there to peek inside.

So far I am currently working on two paintings and getting ready to shoot four more photos for the last four paintings that go with my latest collection for BFA. I am also working on books for installation other than the peephole which is finished, just needs to be installed. The two books I am currently constructing are for a group installation and a solo one. The group one is a leather bound book that will feature photos I purchased from an antique shop to recreate the main woman’s story, it goes along with the theme of the Muse of which this woman is. The second book is a literature based installation where I have constructed an altered book out of the Bell Jar and viewers will be able to interact with the book by pulling out poems by Plath and myself. This is the second interactive book I have made, its nice to be able to invite the viewer although I still fear sticky dirty hands touching my art.

Other projects I have been working on are figure painting and screenwriting. This is the first time I have ever written screenplays and its so much fun, I knew when I wasn’t really making the A mark in Video Art that I was a “filmmaker” rather than a “video artist” although I consider the two the same thing, but some people do not… Anyway I had a feeling taking screenwriting would open the right doors for what I wanted to do with film, so I’m glad its working out! I’ve been writing about my cyclops’ so its great to give them a greater purpose than just being still images on a page, there is now a story and dialogue for them which expands their meaning farther creating an even more meaningful narrative for them.

So I have been sick for 2 weeks now, well it will be 3 and its been awful trying to get myself to make art. Yesterday I finally got the energy to go to the gym and make a Christmas card that needed to be sent out this week before the USPS halts delivery for the holidays. Today I have spent time uploading images of my work to my official tumblr page so all can be reblogged by my followers and lurkers. I may do the same for my pintrest, not sure yet.

I will say updating the internet with my art and actually making the Christmas card has given me a boost amongst this art funk that happens every time I have a break. I have concluded that breaks are bad for me, and that after graduation I need some job that requires a lot of artistic working. Laying around in bed all day is not my ideal lifestyle.

Also I have a pile of FREE paintings I am GIVING away, PRO BONO, email me if you want to pick one out, I also have artwork for sale. All of the Doll Paintings, the Courtney Love/Kurt Cobain paintings, Katy Perry Painting, Cakes In The Ballroom painting, and Sylvia Plath paintings are all for sale. The prices vary, so if you are interested and have enough dinero, shoot me an email. They are for sale obviously because I cannot display them and should decorate the walls of people who love them, its a shame for them to sit in storage (my room). Also I have book art pieces for sale, if you buy a book arts piece they are all installations, I can give instructions on how to properly display them.

Joan of Arc would be proud,

Apparently me being political over Facebook gets me into trouble, so I guess I can gloat here. I’m going to celebrate with powerful feminist women.

These events left a profound impact on me in my childhood as I witnessed them on television and how they affected the people around me and myself, and shaped me into the person I am today.

I couldn’t find the exact clip I saw on TV, but you get the idea.

I was captivated by this performance, still am.

This news changed me more than anything in my life. At the time I didn’t know that it was going to affect me the way it did, but I guess you could say this was the person I would soon find myself having a large amount of empathy for. It was not just about the sadness I felt while watching this as a child, but the fact that it was going to become more relevant to me than I could have ever imagined as a three year old.

(The discovery of Weezer and their video for Buddy Holly was actually from the installation disk from Windows 95 to promote the new video for the band in 1994 when we got our first computer, I loved watching Happy Day’s and my parents rushed me over to the new computer to watch this video.)

Courtney, yes. What more can I say.

I was obsessed with Gwen Stefani’s bindi’s and also the black patent leather shoes and fishnets she wore at the 1997 Billboard Awards.

My parents forced me to watch many movies with them that gave me many fears, Psycho scared me so much I took baths until the second grade when I realized taking showers was a big kid thing and if I wanted to be cool I had to brave it out and take a shower. I seriously thought someone was going to come in and stab me.

Thanks Mom and Dad for the awful visual images that I always remember because of this film. This scene is the one that scared the little toddler butt off of mine!

Out of every scary movie my parents had me watch this one was by far the most horrible. I had nightmares every year after seeing this film in December, I would wake up in a panic and I would scream for my mom and run to her room. Finally sometime in the 4th grade I had a dream where Chucky and I made a truce and became friends and never had another nightmare about him again.

I was a huge Spice Girls fan as a kid (still am) my Mom video taped this for me when it was aired on TV.

This is also not an exact video of what I saw on TV, but there were many news casts about Geri leaving the Spice Girls. I always said she would rejoin them, and I was right.

I remember everyone including myself being sad when this news came about. I felt so bad for her sons that I drew them a picture and wrote them a sympathy letter and asked my mom to send it to them.

I watched this whole scandal unfold everyday on TV before and after school. Kind of hard to forget. But I still think Clinton was a fantastic president despite his personal mistakes.

I could go on forever with videos, but you can see how pop-culture has influenced me and why my art revolves around it.
