I have four new paintings up on my website, they are comparison paintings of myself with Andy Warhol, Marilyn Monroe, Kurt Cobain, and Courtney Love. These paintings go alongside the ones with Debbie Harry and Gwen Stefani. There will be 5 more added next week that I am currently working on.

Also, I have completed a 3.5 year long video art piece that recalls my memory of Kurt Cobain’s death. It’s a long story, but here is the video. If you go onto my vimeo page there is an explanation of the video, which I high recommend reading because it really gives you some insight into what this means to me and what all of the imagery represents.

Finally, I have been updating Underexposed, my blog for emerging artists every couple of weeks. Yesterday I posted about Kurt Cobain as a Visual Artist. It’s great, I’m really proud of it, so check it out!!!

Recovery Room (Self-Portrait as Margot Tenenbaum) painting is finished, also there was an article written up about my work on Dashburst!

I will be planning out my next character painting, it’s going to be on a smaller canvas, so I’m having trouble picking in my mind, so I’m going to look through my reference photos, not sure why I try to mentally figure things out when I can just go through all my files and make decisions.

So I have been non-stop painting/bookmaking etc. Screenplays yup, a lot.

Anyway so this first Friday is the Downtown Peepholes, mine will be at Bon Ami Confections, so you better be there to peek inside.

So far I am currently working on two paintings and getting ready to shoot four more photos for the last four paintings that go with my latest collection for BFA. I am also working on books for installation other than the peephole which is finished, just needs to be installed. The two books I am currently constructing are for a group installation and a solo one. The group one is a leather bound book that will feature photos I purchased from an antique shop to recreate the main woman’s story, it goes along with the theme of the Muse of which this woman is. The second book is a literature based installation where I have constructed an altered book out of the Bell Jar and viewers will be able to interact with the book by pulling out poems by Plath and myself. This is the second interactive book I have made, its nice to be able to invite the viewer although I still fear sticky dirty hands touching my art.

Other projects I have been working on are figure painting and screenwriting. This is the first time I have ever written screenplays and its so much fun, I knew when I wasn’t really making the A mark in Video Art that I was a “filmmaker” rather than a “video artist” although I consider the two the same thing, but some people do not… Anyway I had a feeling taking screenwriting would open the right doors for what I wanted to do with film, so I’m glad its working out! I’ve been writing about my cyclops’ so its great to give them a greater purpose than just being still images on a page, there is now a story and dialogue for them which expands their meaning farther creating an even more meaningful narrative for them.

My brother Sam, who needs a job in accounting (please hook him up), has always been a good judge of art. As a person who sucks at art he knows more about conceptual BS than I do. Go figure, but thats because my brother is the constant reminder of “don’t think so hard”, as an artist that is what I tend to do, and thats why I have the brother I do. The videos and comments below are what I have gather from his advice.

My brother showed me this Warhol video four years ago, its still my favorite interview with him. (Do not express emotion, make the interviewer feel their questions are meaningless.)

This is the kind of video art my brother advised me to do because my brother is smart and knows how to please conceptual people. Plus Warhol eating a burger is hilarious.

Remember that comedy is your friend, even in the simplest forms.

Be Absurd. (Yes, I have posted this video before)

Make fun of shit, make mockumentaries.

Make “Music” Videos.

Make fun of Conceptual BS.

Or If Your Feeling Extra Awesome, make a full length film.

This weeks progress. I am going to start paintings the two 8×10’s this weekend and hopefully get some more drawings and observations done in my journal and get some more progress on my family heritage books. I also drew Marie Antoinette’s children to go in these tiny approx. 2×3 frames.
