Here I have four new as I call them Portraits on Portraits, 3 of these will be in two different shows, I will have more information as it closer to the shows. Also you can find these on my website under “Drawings”, I consider them drawing with thread, thats basically what embroidery is. 🙂 Anyway enjoy, I’m currently working on finishing up the “Recovery Room” painting of myself as Margot Tenenbaum (again) today, just putting in the background details.

So I had an amazing trip to California, drove the Pacific Coast Highway from San Diego to San Francisco and of course made stops in all the places I have wanted to see and spent a couple of days in each. Anyway this journey was not only to see California, but to see if this is where I would like to relocate myself, and yes its definitley on the top of the list. I also traveled to Chicago to visit family and get a feel for the area again although it’s the same as I remembered it 6 or 7 years ago, and it’s still my second home, so of course Chicago is on my list for relocation. While staying in Chicago my cousin and I made a trip up to Milwaukee for the Melvins 30th Anniversary tour, and mainly because Mudhoney was going to be playing with them, and if you don’t know, you know now, I am a HUGE Mudhoney fan. I like the Melvins, but Mudhoney, man, they are insanely good, and their set was amazing, Mark Arm’s voice has not changed at all, still got the chops!

Now that I have been back from that long month of traveling I have been working on new paintings and continuing my Female Protagonists in Film series. The newest paintings i have done are two 5″x5″, called Me + Gwen Stefani and Me + Debbie Harry. Also, I made the decision to go completely organic with my food, after a long time of knowing how bad non-organic food is for your body I have decided to bite the bullet and just pay extra for the food that’s not genetically altered with hormones and pesticides.

Also while in Milwaukee, I went to their art museum which is FANTASTIC, they have the best and largest Contemporary Art Collection I have ever seen in a museum, its was great, and when I say Contemporary I mean work made after 2000. They had an exhibit called 30 Americans which showcased the work of African-Americans, and OMG it was breathtaking. A bunch of Nice Cave’s work was there and he’s amazing, and finally I got to see one of my absolute favorite painters work in the flesh for the first time, Kahinde Wiley. They were godly, perfect, just absolutely unbelievable, and the best part is, it’s not as photo realistic as we think, and I appreciate that in an artist. He captures the sense of reality without losing the brushstrokes, and his wallpaper is probably the most realistic and detailed part of his work and that’s what brings these works to life. He’s the bomb. They had three large works of his, although everything he does is large! I was very pleased with that museum, they do a great job not only on special exhibits, but the permanent ones too. Same goes for Art Institute of Chicago, their Fashion and Impressionism exhibit was gorgeous, they had garments from that time period to accompany many great works, including early Monet’s are which before the age of impressionism really took power, meaning they are done in realism, and they are beautiful.

So I have finished creating all 100 cyclops’ and the process of scanning them into the computer will now start. I will be turning this into what I call a mini-book because its going to be pocket-sized. My projected goal is to have a first edition of 100 books and a second edition of 200 books, which ever works better because I want to submit these to be sold in a really awesome book store I found in New York, its badass and their logo is pink.

Anyway I finished putting together my new and first real easel with my Dad this week and my projector also came, so it will be put to the test tonight with the first painting of this new collection I am working on. I don’t want to say anything about the work just yet, but I can tell you the theme of which is Female Protagonists in Film that I relate to. It’s really awesome and I have 10 paintings, two of which are the same person, but one is going to a be a smaller study, and these canvases are all square so far, I’m feeling the square lately after doing the Hear, Speak, and See No Evil paintings.

Anyway, we will see how far I get this summer in progression its a weird time, I’m supposed to be driving (ugh) up to Chicago in July????? and then recently my Dad brought home two travel books on Southern California (I’ve begged to go since I could speak, but he never wanted to, I’m very confused, but thats cool), but also there is this possibility of getting a full-time/part-time job and moving, so really traveling only happens if I am completely content somewhere and have the time. So as far as I know, I’m painting and possibly doing interviews and a lot of driving.
