Recovery Room (Self-Portrait as Margot Tenenbaum) painting is finished, also there was an article written up about my work on Dashburst!

Here is the link to the article, http://dashburst.com/pic/self-portraits-kurt-cobain-courtney-love/

I will be planning out my next character painting, it’s going to be on a smaller canvas, so I’m having trouble picking in my mind, so I’m going to look through my reference photos, not sure why I try to mentally figure things out when I can just go through all my files and make decisions.

So the first painting in my series of Female Protagonists in Film is complete, it is titled Green Line Bus where I am posed as Margot Tenenbaum from the Wes Anderson film, The Royal Tenenbaums. This painting was taken of course from the screenshot scene of Margot walking off the Green Line Bus in NYC meeting Richie, also this is my favorite scene in the entire film, so it makes sense as to why I chose it.

Anyway, I wanted to pay homage to the green line, so that is why the background is made up of green lines and I chose a particular stripe pattern for the lines that mimic Margot’s dresses she is seen wearing throughout the film. Items featured in the painting of my own are altered of which are the coat that’s actually suede with a fur collar and the barrette which is modeled after my white and gold heart-shaped Hole barrette. The shirt underneath the coat was taken from my striped tank top.

Alright that was a lot of explaining, but there’s more. As you can see I am staring the viewer straight in the eye, whereas in the film Margot is looking in the direction I call Stage Left, I changed this because I always want the viewer to be confronted, I want you to know that she is looking at you and be able to have a mental conversation with her or try to interpret what this painting means to you, if that makes sense. I mean I know what it means to me and the whole of the collection, but I believe each person out there will have a unique experience with each work and whatever that is, I am completely interested in knowing and allowing it to happen.

So I have finished creating all 100 cyclops’ and the process of scanning them into the computer will now start. I will be turning this into what I call a mini-book because its going to be pocket-sized. My projected goal is to have a first edition of 100 books and a second edition of 200 books, which ever works better because I want to submit these to be sold in a really awesome book store I found in New York, its badass and their logo is pink.

Anyway I finished putting together my new and first real easel with my Dad this week and my projector also came, so it will be put to the test tonight with the first painting of this new collection I am working on. I don’t want to say anything about the work just yet, but I can tell you the theme of which is Female Protagonists in Film that I relate to. It’s really awesome and I have 10 paintings, two of which are the same person, but one is going to a be a smaller study, and these canvases are all square so far, I’m feeling the square lately after doing the Hear, Speak, and See No Evil paintings.

Anyway, we will see how far I get this summer in progression its a weird time, I’m supposed to be driving (ugh) up to Chicago in July????? and then recently my Dad brought home two travel books on Southern California (I’ve begged to go since I could speak, but he never wanted to, I’m very confused, but thats cool), but also there is this possibility of getting a full-time/part-time job and moving, so really traveling only happens if I am completely content somewhere and have the time. So as far as I know, I’m painting and possibly doing interviews and a lot of driving.

I will have a HQ photos of the paintings installed later this week. I will be taking a pictures before the show to have a nice clean photo without the blue tape on the walls. 🙂

Also my friend Brianna mentioned how you could see my paintings from the window at night, so I went and snapped a photo of what that looks like!

This weeks progress. I am going to start paintings the two 8×10’s this weekend and hopefully get some more drawings and observations done in my journal and get some more progress on my family heritage books. I also drew Marie Antoinette’s children to go in these tiny approx. 2×3 frames.

The 5th Self-Portrait is finished and the 6th one has just started. Also I bought 2 8×10 oval canvases to paint the mirroring Marie Antoinette/Self-Portrait images, as a side note these two 8×10’s will not be in the portfolio show. Currently I have been brainstorming by next collection of paintings, I have had some ideas that I really like, but feel its they are not paintings I would like to work on now, and now as in for the next portfolio show in 2013. But I did come up with an idea that I really really love and believe it could be something I could really put a lot of myself (literal or not) into. Although whats getting me down about this great new idea is that its 12 large sized paintings and the chance that I will be able to show all of them is slim.

This past week my roommate, Tristan, and myself went on the art walk and saw some cool some, some so cheesy stuff (Casa Monica), and the best of all Sara Pedigo and Liz Robbins Transliteration show! I wish the St.Augustine area could compete with everything that shows at the Crisp-Ellert but it can’t, too many “old” people painting trees, birds, and seascapes.
