I have completed three handmade books of which are blank, so you can fill them with whatever you want. They are for sale on my etsy store, http://www.etsy.com/shop/JohannaFalzone

I’m really proud of these books, I think they are my best work yet in terms of craft and I am so happy to be able to sell them and finally allow other s to enjoy handmade books. I’ve had a lot of requests to start making them for people to buy, so here they are! There will be more to come!

So I have finished creating all 100 cyclops’ and the process of scanning them into the computer will now start. I will be turning this into what I call a mini-book because its going to be pocket-sized. My projected goal is to have a first edition of 100 books and a second edition of 200 books, which ever works better because I want to submit these to be sold in a really awesome book store I found in New York, its badass and their logo is pink.

Anyway I finished putting together my new and first real easel with my Dad this week and my projector also came, so it will be put to the test tonight with the first painting of this new collection I am working on. I don’t want to say anything about the work just yet, but I can tell you the theme of which is Female Protagonists in Film that I relate to. It’s really awesome and I have 10 paintings, two of which are the same person, but one is going to a be a smaller study, and these canvases are all square so far, I’m feeling the square lately after doing the Hear, Speak, and See No Evil paintings.

Anyway, we will see how far I get this summer in progression its a weird time, I’m supposed to be driving (ugh) up to Chicago in July????? and then recently my Dad brought home two travel books on Southern California (I’ve begged to go since I could speak, but he never wanted to, I’m very confused, but thats cool), but also there is this possibility of getting a full-time/part-time job and moving, so really traveling only happens if I am completely content somewhere and have the time. So as far as I know, I’m painting and possibly doing interviews and a lot of driving.

So I have been non-stop painting/bookmaking etc. Screenplays yup, a lot.

Anyway so this first Friday is the Downtown Peepholes, mine will be at Bon Ami Confections, so you better be there to peek inside.

So far I am currently working on two paintings and getting ready to shoot four more photos for the last four paintings that go with my latest collection for BFA. I am also working on books for installation other than the peephole which is finished, just needs to be installed. The two books I am currently constructing are for a group installation and a solo one. The group one is a leather bound book that will feature photos I purchased from an antique shop to recreate the main woman’s story, it goes along with the theme of the Muse of which this woman is. The second book is a literature based installation where I have constructed an altered book out of the Bell Jar and viewers will be able to interact with the book by pulling out poems by Plath and myself. This is the second interactive book I have made, its nice to be able to invite the viewer although I still fear sticky dirty hands touching my art.

Other projects I have been working on are figure painting and screenwriting. This is the first time I have ever written screenplays and its so much fun, I knew when I wasn’t really making the A mark in Video Art that I was a “filmmaker” rather than a “video artist” although I consider the two the same thing, but some people do not… Anyway I had a feeling taking screenwriting would open the right doors for what I wanted to do with film, so I’m glad its working out! I’ve been writing about my cyclops’ so its great to give them a greater purpose than just being still images on a page, there is now a story and dialogue for them which expands their meaning farther creating an even more meaningful narrative for them.

So about three weeks ago I spilled gesso on my carpet and freaked out, then Libby and my Mom saved me by prescribing the cure of Goo Gone and Carpet Cleaner.

Also for the past couple weeks I have been making sculptures and books. I do not have any pictures of my recent books yet, I am going to wait until I am finished making the box for my two “Andersen” books and completing the altered book and mini book that goes inside the altered book to take pictures and upload them to the blog.

I have decided on a final display for my Marie Antoinette paintings, also I have some awesome news that I will share probably sometime next week.

Also two weeks ago was the “Under Pressure” printmaking show at the Cummer of which Brianna, Sara, and myself attended to see the great Don Martin’s work (my independent study professor/book arts professor/gives me pep talks and has a mustache) and Ryan Tempro (classmate friend who paints with the impossible knife aka the palette knife). Their work was groovy along with the screen print I got from the UNF demo kids. Also because food is awesome, the food was awesome and I drank that wine faster than my norwegian blood could catch up with and the man that checked my I.D. took forever, I don’t think he believed I was 21.

In addition to art making I have been busy finishing papers, artist re-enactments etc. and its been awfully boring having to work on those projects, but I will soon be able to just sit down scan drawings and make sketches for my new series of paintings I am planning for 2013. Also I have been trying to make an effort to hang out with friends and do fun things, because it seems art tries to take over my life more than it should and that I can handle sometimes, so a little outing is nice once in a while or just plain messing around in the studio and not doing anything art related. I even listened to the Spice Girls CD “Spice” three times over the weekend and had my own personal dance party, along with spending two days with Callie doing random fun stuff. Thanksgiving I spent with my parents brother, Callie, Sofi, and Callie’s parents, it was really nice and now I think I’m just writing a journal entry… I’m going to stop and leave you with the Spice Girls.

So I am about to look at and read the little excerpts in Tim Biskup’s Jackson 500 Vol. 1-4 and I have posted some images of my favorite parts of Marie Claire’s October 2012 issue.

Here are some process photos of the Marie Antoinette Chapbook I am making. The book will feature poems I wrote in the perspective of Marie Antoinette and follows her life as Dauphine/Queen of France in chronological order. Each card has an image that corresponds with the poem in some way either literal or suggestion.

P.S. I have ran out of space on my blog to post images, so some things like the art archive are probably going to be deleted, and I may not be posting images for awhile because I need to some how magically find $20 to upgrade my space. I thought once I got money I would be buying my website domain, but I guess once again its going to go on the back burner. If I magically get paid by the institution that is Flagler College and my money is not stollen by their Card Company then I might be able to buy the space or I will have to beg my Dad for cash, because my Mom currently is broke, yes Im going to tell all of you about my financial woes because this is how life as an artist is. Not only do I have to decide on what “Internet GB’s” I’m going to buy, I have to decide if its worth filling my gas tank up, buying food etc. of which gas and food was more important than getting more digital space on the blog.

I will say I have been using this blog for almost 5 years and its lasted a pretty long time Gig-Wise, So I guess it deserves an upgrade.
