My name is Johanna, I earned my BFA in Fine Art from Flagler College along with minors in Graphic Design and English in 2013.
My art is based on Pop Culture, Personal Experience, and Feminism. I paint pop-culture images, along with many series of Self-Portrait paintings which range from myself posing as celebrities I have connections with to just posing as myself. I also make books, sculpt, and experiment with video art. Pop Art, Lowbrow/Pop-Surrealism, Rococo, and Post-Modernism have highly influenced me over the years and I am known for giving people Art History lessons without really meaning to.
I use a Canon Rebel XTi with HD Video for photo shoots and video art and a 1983 Russian Smena-35 Lomo for fine art photography. As much book art, paintings, sculpture, and video art you will see in my portfolio, there is just as much photography taking place. Photography is not a main media I showcase, but on a rare occasion I will let photo references and fine art photography be exposed for viewing.
(This list keeps getting longer) A few artists who inspire me are Andy Warhol, Edgar Degas, David Hockney, Richard Avedon, David Cooper,

Barbara Morgan, Paul Kolnik, Mary Cassatt, Richard Hamilton, Peter Max, Roy Lichtenstein, John Singer Sargent, Tim Biskup, Bob Masse, Janine Antoni, Judy Chicago, Audrey Flack, Marilyn Minter, Mark Ryden, Vadis Turner, Boucher, Fragonard, Bernini, Leia Bell, James Rosenquist, Marion Peck, Robert Rauschenberg, Callus Oldenburg, Marc Chagall, Eric White, Wayne Thiaud, Dame Darcy, Toulouse-Lautrec, Chuck Close, Frida Kahlo, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Kehinde Wiley, Chris Burden, Urs Fischer, Shawn Barber, Van Gogh, Mark Rothko, Zinaida Serebriakova, Will Cotton, Vigee Le Brun, Cindy Sherman,Gerard Richter, and Rosson Crow.
Along with Fine Art, I have danced for ten+ years, classically trained in the R.A.D. method for ballet and trained in the Graham method for Modern dance. I have attended two workshops under the instruction of Suzanne Farrell at FSU (2007-08), attended Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s 2008 Summer Program. In 2007 I participated in one of Yanira Castro’s Choreographic Workshop where I was filmed along with fourteen other girls to inspire new choreography for a new section in Yanira’s: The Center of Sleep. In June 2009 I choreographed a modern dance alongside my dance instructor for my last recital, myself and two other girls danced the choreography to the song, “Oceans” by Pearl Jam. Although I am not pursuing dance professionally, it is a constant inspiration in my artwork and sometimes even involved in the process.
